With the focus glued to reducing the Carbon footprint globally, JK Tyres today has a highly desirable manufacturing model.
JK Tyre And Industries Ltd (JKTIL) is among the most important corporate citizens in the country. It has recently been gaining much attention for its focus on sustainability. JK has been practicing green manufacturing for quite some time and is at the forefront of advocating the same in the country. With the prime focus glued to reducing the global Carbon footprint, JK’s efforts for the same deserve praise on the World Environment Day 2021.
JK Tyre has high focus on using green and clean energy and has solar panels installed across Rajasthan, Mysuru, Chennai and Gwalior for producing energy for all its needs. These together can make 14.7 MWp organically. JK has also replaced the likes of coal with renewable sources like biomass, thus curbing the Carbon footprint in the production process to some extent. They have also planted 25,000 bamboo trees. Plus, JK Industries also procures wind power for its Chennai and Mysuru plants, supplying the same for 55% of the net energy demands. The company claims it has been able to reduce the Carbon emission intensity by up to 53%.
JK also has high attention on ensuring water efficiency. The benchmark water conservation practices here include carefully curated use of harvesting pits, trenching, de-silting etc. JK had become the first Indian tyre maker to participate in the CDP Water security in 2019. The manufacturer also ensures the lowest possible water consumption for its activities.
JK Tyres also practices zero waste landfill, to make sure the land remains unhurt by the manufacturing. Their integrated waste management system at its plants reduces the waste being used for landfills by 2-5% every year. This initiative won the British Standards Institution certification in 2021.
