VW India In The Works To Rival Brezza and Creta

Volkswagen India plans to launch a sub 4 meter SUV to strengthen its roots in the market.

The compact SUV market in India has tempted all the major players to enter the segment and prove their strength. VW has not made its foot into this yet, but are in the works to put in some bold moves which could even outthrow the dominant forces like Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki. However, the German giant is planning a lot for our market under the project India 2.0. This project not only includes a sub 4 meter SUV but also includes mild hybrid and plug-in hybrids. The company aims to capture 5% of the passenger car market in India, which is massive compared to the current 0.9 and 0.5 percents of VW & Skoda respectively.

The manufacturer is planning to launch Taigun later in 2021 with the sole purpose to attract more customers and to compete with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster, etc. Being a SUB-4m Suv will be subject to tax exemptions, they can price it aggressively to eat up into the shares of its competitors.

Reports suggest that this car would be initially launched with SKODA badging and later, will be available in VW showrooms with their logo. It would be powered by the same unit that powers the Vento and Polo, a 1.0 L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine coupled with a 6 speed manual and 6 speed automatic, producing 115 Ps maximum power and 200nm peak torque. The authorities have not officially confirmed the launch date yet, but we could expect its arrival by 2022
