Tata Motors Records 41% Decline In April 2021 Sales, Share Prices Drop!

Nexon emerged as the top seller for Tata Motors in April 2021

Tata Motors recorded sales numbers of 25,096 in its PV business in April 2021, amidst challenging market conditions. When pitted against the 29,655 units of March 2021, these essentially translate to a 15% decline. However, a proper YoY analysis cannot be done at this point, as the industry was undergoing a complete shutdown in April 2020, due to the pandemic.

The Nexon was the most-sold Tata PV model in April 2021. With 6,938 units out, the facelifted Nexon could easily overtake the popular Altroz and Tiago in sales. The compact SUV currently ranks among the top contendors in its segment.

The Tiago sold a good 6,656 units and the Altroz 6,649 units, in April. The Harrier and Safari also witnessed fair amounts of traction in the market, with the former selling 1,712 units and the latter 1,514 units in April. The Tigor compact sedan ranks probably ranks far down in terms of acceptance and sold just 1,627 units.

Commercial Vehicle Business

The commercial vehicle vertical of the manufacturer witnessed greater de-growth in April. The total domestic sales of Tata commercial vehicles stood ay 14,435 units as against the 36,955 units of March 2021, meaning a massive 61% decline. The CV exports recorded around 40% downfall (From March’s 3654 to April’s 2209). Combined, the CV sector recorded a 59% de-growth. Thus, with its PV and CV verticals combined, Tata Motors had recorded a de-growth of 41% in April 2021.

Share Price

Apparently triggered by the sales decline, Tata Motors share price had fallen by a good 3% in early May. However, as of 6th May, 15:05 hours, Tata Motors is quoting INR 300.60 (NSE)
