The name announcement comes in as a total surprise, and dissolves all previous name-related rumours

It was just a day ago that Tata Motors released a couple of teaser videos on social media, indicating an upcoming reveal of the production guise of the Tata H2X concept. These videos had the name ‘Tata HBX’ in their titles, thereby hinting that the carmaker could choose to continue with the familiar moniker on the production car as well, something which we had talked about previously.

However, Tata Motors has taken the veils off the upcoming micro-SUV today, revealing a car that looks fabulous and bears an all-new nameplate. The HBX (or the production H2X) has now officially been christened ‘Tata Punch’, a name befitting the overall persona of this car and the enthusiasm it entails. This also means that the previous rumours of this product being named ‘Hornbill’, ‘Blackbird’, ‘Timero’ or ‘HBX’ are all dissolved.

Tata Punch: A Design That Would Get You Hooked!

As you might remember, the Tata Punch is built on the ALFA -ARC platform. The exact dimensions are yet to be revealed. However, we expect them to be almost identical to those of the Tigor. The images that have just surfaced suggest the Punch to have a proper SUV stance and a befitting ground clearance.

The overall design is highly suggestive of the hot-selling Harrier. The H2X concept, which the Punch is essentially based on, had had this (alarming) visual connect from day 1! The production car draws even more degrees of visual similarities with the popular SUV. It looks almost like a downsized Harrier itself. There are multiple design cues typical of modern-day Tata SUVs- like the split headlamps, sturdy stance, prominent bumpers, black body cladding that add more muscle to the overall design, all neatly incorporated. The rear gets a rather radical design for the LED tail lamps. Needless to say, the Punch packs all the flair of the Impact 2.0 design lingo.

Other Key Details!

Tata Motors has not revealed further details of the Punch yet. However, we expect it to have a cabin design that is not too far from that of the H2X and the familiar 1.2L NA and Turbo-petrol engines mated to 5MT and 5AMT. The manufacturer has intentions of placing the Punch as a tiny SUV for the cities, something that is compact enough to be a boon in the cities even while offering a proper SUV feel on the inside. More details of the Tata micro SUV are expected to surface soon and the market launch as such, could happen sometime in the coming weeks.
