Tata HBX spied

The Tata HBX has been spied again, with a lot more details revealed than before, indicating the car to hit the markets soon…

Tata’s upcoming micro-SUV was first revealed at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show as Tata H2X concept, and later at AutoExpo 2020, Tata showcased a more production ready form as HBX concept. Now, the images surfacing on the internet reveals more details of the car.

As seen in the spy shots, the HBX looks like a scaled down version of the Tata Harrier from the front with its split headlamp layout and Tata’s trademark ‘Humanity Line’ grille. The spied variant is equipped with steel rims, though the top variants will be offered with alloy wheels. Overall this micro-SUV has a very upright stance and seems to be a whole lot bigger than the Maruti S-Presso.

These latest images don’t show us the car’s interior though the earlier spy images had revealed the interiors which then looked much like those of the HBX concept. The concept’s features aren’t as such imported, but the production model will feature the flat-bottom steering wheel with audio and phone controls, square air-con vents up in the centre, a 7.0 inch floating touchscreen infotainment system. It is also likely to get a part-digital 7.0-inch instrument cluster and auto climate control air-con.

Since it is built on Tata’s ALFA architecture, Tata HBX will be quite spacious on the inside and will probably feature doors that open 90 degrees which will make getting in and out a lot easier, just like those on the Altroz.

The HBX will be offered with two engine options, a 1.2L 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol producing 86hp and 113Nm of torque mated to either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT automatic box and a 1.2L turbo petrol producing 110hp coupled with a manual box.

Once launched, the mini-SUV will compete against the like of Maruti Ignis, Mahindra KUV 100 NXT and the petrol variants of the Ford Freestyle. Tata is likely to price the HBX between INR 4.5 to 7.5 Lakh (ex-showroom).
