Tata Altroz iTurbo Unveiled Ahead Of Launch Later This Month!

The Tata Altroz iTurbo upon launch, will battle the likes of the new Hyundai i20 and VW Polo

Tata is all set to launch their premium hatchback, the Altroz with an all-new turbo petrol engine. The Altroz iTurbo has been revealed ahead of its launch on 22 January and bookings are to open tomorrow. One can reserve his Altroz iTurbo against a payment of Rs. 11,000, while the actual price details will only be announced on 22nd January.

Tata has introduced the XZ+ variant, essentially the top-spec variant on the Altroz brand, and will be offered with all premium features along with the new turbo petrol engine. The addition of the turbo petrol mill and the DCT to follow will further boost the sales of the premium hatchback in coming months.

The new XZ+ variant gets all the boxes ticked. In addition to the features seen in the XZ variant, including a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, ambient lighting, etc, the XZ+ gets an eight-speaker Harman sound system (four speakers, four tweeters), leatherette seats, an Xpress cool function, a Doodle feature for touchscreen wallpaper customization, and Tata’s IRA ( Intelligent Real-time Assistant) connected car technology with geo-fencing, voice commands, etc. The Tata iRA can understand English, Hindi and Hinglish, and would prove to be of great convenience to the driver.

The much-awaited change in the Altroz iTurbo is the addition of turbo petrol engine. The 1.2L 3 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine churns out 110hp and 140Nm of torque. (The same engine powers the Nexon SUV, but in a higher state of tune) Currently, the Altroz iTurbo will be offered only with a five-speed manual gearbox. However, Tata will bring in the Schaeffler sourced DCT automatic box sometime soon. Instead of the City and Eco in the regular Altroz, the iTurbo variant gets City and Sport driving modes.

The iTurbo will be made available in three variants, XT, XZ and the new XZ+. We don’t expect the new model to have any cosmetic upgrades to set it apart from the regular Altroz, except for some new badges. Tata has, however, added a new Harbour blue paint shade to the range.

The Altroz iTurbo will be pitched against the Hyundai I20 with the 120hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and the Volkswagen Polo TSI with the 110hp 1.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine.
