Suzuki Burgman electric launch

The Burgman electric would apparently be the first electric offering from Suzuki in India

It must have been a while since Suzuki Motorcycles started pondering over going electric in India, as it was in June that we heard their VP for marketing and sales hint slightly at their electrification plans. Her had then commented that India for them, is EV ready. Months after this, we now have more news on the electric two wheelers from the future Suzuki lineup. What appears to be an electric Suzuki Burgman has now been spotted testing in the country.

Twitter user and auto-enthusiast Prashant Singh recently spotted the mule being tested in Gurgaon and captured a short video of it, which he would later share on the internet. Suzuki Two Wheelers India has chosen to give their maiden EV offering for the country, a Burgman shell, as the Burgman has been a much loved design among Indians.

Suzuki had launched the Burgman Street in India in July 2018, with the familiar 125cc engine from the Access. The masculine design of the Burgman had then managed to turn many heads and the scooter is in good demands even today (obviously in the BS6 guise!) Thus replacing its IC engine with an electric motor would apparently be the safest game to play for the manufacturer at the moment.

The test mule apparently has so much resemblance to the BS6 Burgman Street 125. However, you would also notice a few key deviations from the familiar shape, the absence of an exhaust system, and the differently designed rear suspension to name a few. You would also notice the new paint scheme, which is a combination of Blue and White on this test bike. Though not as imposing or bold as the one on the regular Burgman, this color scheme definitely renders the electric bike a unique persona.

Details are scarce of the powertrain yet, but we are expecting a hub mounted electric motor and a Lithium ion battery pack on the electric scooter. Though there is no clue as to when the Suzuki Burgman electric scooter would make its market debut in India, anticipations suggest it to be out sometime in 2021. Ather 450X, Bajaj Chetak Electric and TVS I-Qube will be the electric Burgman’s key rivals upon launch.
