Maruti Suzuki Readying A Hyundai Venue/ KIA Sonet Rival?

A recent news report by LiveMint suggests that Maruti Suzuki could soon mark their presence in the pocket-friendly sub compact SUV space!

Maruti Suzuki might soon launch a new sub compact SUV, rivalling the Tata Nexon and Hyundai Venue. The new SUV will be based on the Baleno and will sit under the Vitara Brezza.

The country’s unbeaten car maker, Maruti is set to scale up its line-up in India. The manufacturer will launch 5 new UVs by 2023. One among them is the upcoming Compact SUV which will sit under the Brezza.

The new Subcompact SUV, codenamed – YTB, will be based on the premium hatchback, Baleno and will be more of a crossover hatchback than SUV. Maruti will likely use the same game-plan for this as they did with the Ertiga- XL6 combo.

The XL6 which is sold through Nexa dealerships is basically a revived version of the Ertiga, which retails through Arena dealerships. Going by the same fashion, the upcoming SUV is expected to be sold through the Arena dealerships unlike the Baleno and of course, will be priced a notch higher than the Baleno. The new SUV is sure to bring in more customers who are looking for more affordable Compact SUV.

Currently the competitors like Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and the newly launched Nissan Magnite undercuts the Brezza by a fair margin in pricing. Rather than dropping the prices of Brezza, the company is readying a new SUV to turn in more buyers to the brand.

The new Subcompact SUV is likely to use the same 1.2L dualjet petrol mill as the Baleno, which produces 89hp and 113Nm of torque, mated to a 5 speed manual as standard or with a 5 speed AMT or a CVT box as options, and is expected to be priced between Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8 lakh when it finally comes out in 2022.
