Honda N7X Concept Unveiled In Indonesia, BRV Replacement?

The Honda N7X is not a mere design study but a close-to-production concept!

Honda has taken veils off the N7X concept SUV in Indonesia. The three-row concept appears quite production ready and could be hardly dismissed for a mere design study. It is reportedly the carmaker’s first proper 7 seater SUV in Indonesia and could be considered a worthy replacement for the Honda BRV in other southeastern Asian markets.

What Is It?

Firstly, the codename ‘N7X’ signifies ‘New 7 seater eXcitement’, essentially slotting the product into the place of a highly practical and livable seven-seater. The N7X is not merely a design study. The car showcased is almost production-ready, indicating an imminent market debut of the full-grown production guise. Designed by the Honda R&D Asia Pacific, the N7X would go on sale first in Indonesia. Honda envisions the product as something that would have the perks of an MPV and SUV amalgamed, something that could be lived with quite comfortably but could also take you no places with ‘challenging’ roads! Honda pitches the production N7X as a replacement for the BRV.

Design Highlights

The N7X has a design that looks absolute Honda! There are multiple Honda-ish lines and cues in the overall shape. You could spot some from the current-gen Honda City, HRV and the CRV. The car has a tall stance and neat lines throughout its brawn. Sleek wraparound headlamps with LED DRLs, chromed multi-slat grille, faux skid plates, large glasshouse, wheel arches with black cladding, slightly raising shoulder line and wraparound tail lamps are the key highlights.

In keeping with the modern-day aesthetic currents, the N7X concept has blackened pillars, roof rails and multiple metallic inserts as parts of its design. The alloys look quite appealing with their dual tone finish as well.

Expected Engine, Transmission And Platform

Though very little is known of the mechanicals of the N7X concept, we do know that it is built on the same platform as the all-new Honda City. It remains unclear as to if vitals like the wheelbase have changed, for the third row to fit in. The production-spec N7X will have the same engine and transmissions as the new age City, meaning the 1.5L four-cylinder petrol mated either to the manual or the CVT would find places under the hood of this car, as well.

India Launch?

This is indeed a confusing question as such. It has been a while since Honda Cars India axed the BRV due to pathetic sales and currently has no player in the 7 seater SUV space. However, the market winds have changed now. With the likes of all new Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus in place, the 7 seater vehicles in India are gaining much attention. It is but to heat up further with the upcoming Hyundai Alcazar launch. Thus, there exists enough market potential for something like the N7X. Though we have had no word on it yet from Honda, we expect them to launch the production N7X in India sometime soon.
