Delhi guy bids a massive INR 1.11 crore for the first customer-spec Mahindra Thar, here’s more !

How much do you love the new Mahindra Thar? To the skies? To the moon and back? Ok, tell me if you would spend over a crore to buy one? Well, this Delhi guy has just spent a humongous 1.11 crores to buy himself the first-ever customer-spec Mahindra Thar 2020!

Mahindra had started the auction for the first Thar on September 24th at a reserve price of INR 25 lakh. Over 5400 bidders from more than 550 locations took part in the bidding process. In a matter of six days, the bid reached 1.11 crores! It is to be noted that the final day had started with a bid of INR 92.50 lakh.

Akash Minda, the game’s winner, is the CEO of Interior and plastics and Spark Minda, one of the country’s leading automotive component manufacturers. The winner could choose as to where the sums go, from a list of three- the Naandi Foundation, Swades Foundation, and the PM Cares fund. Mr. Minda, however, opted for the Swades Foundation, which is working towards COVID19 Relief in the rural areas. Mahindra will match the sums and donate a total of 2.22 crores to the foundation.

As evident from the bid, people share a strong emotional connection with the Thar. The facelifted Thar had received immense responses from the public on August 15, when it was unveiled for the first time in India. Built on a completely new ladder-on-frame chassis, the new Thar comes with two engine and transmission options. Mahindra’s familiar 132hp, 2.2L mHawk unit, and the new 152hp, turbo 2.0L mStallion petrol engines would be the available powerhouses. The marque will also offer a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic as well. The new Thar would also have a factory fitted hardtop and a convertible soft top. Mahindra is known to announce the prices of the new Thar on October 2, 2020.
