Ducati Multistrada V4 becomes the first motorcycle to feature Adaptive Cruise Control.

Ducati has announced the launch of Multistrada V4 and Multistrada V4 S in the country. The standard Multistrada V4 is priced at Rs 18.99 lakh and the V4 S at Rs 23.10 lakh (both ex-showroom). The 4th generation Multistrada gets multiple technology additions and has its feature list revised thoroughly.

The overall design remains unchanged. The motorcycle gets familiar lines and panels of the Ducati ADV family. It, however, gets the additions of front and rear radars and revised aerodynamic appendages to make for a better riding experience. The Perspex screen, dashboard, handlebar switchgear, dedicated storage and charging bay on the fuel tank remain the key highlights.

The seat height, Ducati claims, is quite low-set and rider-friendly (adjustable at 840-860mm on stock and 810mm and 875mm seats available as accessories)

Technology

2021 Ducati Multistrada V4 is a tech-packed motorcycle. It gets a lot of rider aids and technologies the most important of which is the radar-based Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). Multistrada is the first production motorcycle in the world to feature this technology. There is also an effective Blind Spot Detection system. However, these are in no way autonomous and do not replace the rider as such. In India, the radar system is available just on the Multistrada V4 S (as standard fitment of course) and not on the regular Multistrada V4.

The adaptive cruise control uses controlled braking and acceleration to adjust and maintain the distance from other vehicles up ahead, when riding at speeds between 30kph and 60 kph. Thus, one should not worry about losing control of the vehicle while the ACC is in operation. It can be activated and adjusted by using the dedicated buttons on the handlebar. The Blind Spot Detection system uses LEDs mounted on the rearview mirrors for its operation. These LEDs flash whenever there is a vehicle in the rider’s blind spot.

Besides the radar, the bike gets other familiar tech like Inertial Measurement Unit, cornering ABS, Wheelie control, traction control, Vehicle Hold Control (on the V4 S), etc

New Engine!

The engine is the next big change in the Multistrada V4. The motorcycle now gets the V4 GranTurismo engine that ditches the familiar Desmodromic valves and gets a spring valve system instead. It has a counter-rotating crankshaft, liquid cooling, and Twin Pulse firing order and produces 170hp and 125 Nm. There is an advanced Ride-By-Wire system as well.

The key advantage of the Granturismo engine is that it demands less frequent valve checks. Ducati claims an interval of 60,000 km before you need to take the new Multistrada for a valve check again. This, if you might recall, is almost double the figures of the V twin Multistrada 1260.
