7 Seat MG Hector Plus Launch Delayed!

The Coronavirus pandemic and the associated nationwide lockdown have made MG push the launch further to June…

Morris Garages is apparently prepping a 7 seater version of the popular Hector SUV. The carmaker had earlier showcased a 6 seater Hector , dubbed the MG Hector Plus, at Auto Expo 2020. We have all been waiting for its launch ever since. Though MG had earlier hinted the Hector Plus to launch in India as their third product and in April 2020, it now turns out that the carmaker has pushed this date to June 2020, owing to the current Coronavirus crisis and the associated lockdown.

Rajeev Chaba, President & MD, MG Motor India told Autocar India “We could have surprised everyone by launching it in April, but now April is ruled out. So we are on track to launch it in June. It has been delayed, but we said June earlier, so we are keeping some margin with us, so in June we should be launching it.”

The Hector Plus would initially be launched as a six-seater with captain seats for the middle row. We expect the proper seven-seater to launch on a later phase. Talking about the car, the Hector Plus is very much similar to the car it is based on, on the technical fronts, except for the slight increase in length. However, pronounced changes have been made on the design and cosmetic fronts of the new car.

New bumpers up front and at the rear, revamped headlamps with thicker DRLs, new tail lamps sans the red connecting strip, a new set of fog lamps, all-black grille, miserly use of chrome in the overall design, all but mean the MG Hector Plus looks much neater than the regular Hector.

The Hector Plus would most likely have the same FCA sourced 2.0L diesel engine good enough to churn out 170PS, 1.5L petrol with 48V mild hybrid system and a 143PS 1.5L turbo petrol engines from the 5-seater Hector. Once launched, the MG Hector Plus will go against the likes of the upcoming Tata Gravitas, Mahindra XUV 500, and 7 seater Hyundai Creta.
