Lamborghini Huracan STO India Launch

Think of the huracan STO as a Huracan Super Trofeo EVO race car homologated for street use!

Lamborghini India has launched the beastly Huracan STO in the country, priced at Rs 4.99 crores, ex-sh. With the options and additional speccing in place, the prices could be in the Aventador territory. The STO is pitched as a replacement for the Performante in the carmaker’s portfolio, something which does not hold true in terms of the actual potential. With the launch of the STO, the Huracan family has grown 6 members strong.

The STO definitely is no kin to the Performante in its core DNA. The Performante was a pumped-up version of the regular Huracan while the STO has its roots in motorsport. Think of this as a street-homologated guise of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo EVO race car. The name STO, which stands for Super Trofeo Omologato, suggests the same. Don’t be fooled now, as the homologation levels are not too invasive in nature.

0-100 kph In 3 Seconds Flat!

The Huracan STO has been co-developed by Lamborghini Squadra Corse and Centro Stile, and retains true racing genes, reworked in a way that suits street use. The car gets generous use of Carbon Fiber in its construction- 75% of the body panels are made of CF!

The Huracan STO gets the EVO’s familiar 5.2L naturally aspirated V10, in a more aggressive state of tune. The engine now pumps out 640 hp and 565 Nm, channeled to the rear wheels alone, and is mated to a 7-speed LDF DCT transmission. Even while the torque stands a tad below the power figures, the actual performance remains unaffected, thanks to the lightweight construction and superior focus on aerodynamics (37% more aerodynamic efficiency than the Performante).

The Huracan STO can do the 0-100 run in flat 3.0 seconds (0.1 seconds slower than the Huracan AWD EVO, but 0.3 seconds faster than the EVO RWD), and 200kph comes in 9 seconds. The top speed has been limited to ‘just’ 310 kph as part of homologation. The Lamborghini ANIMA modes on this car are entirely different from the ones you have seen on the other Lambos of the day. There are three driving modes on the Huracan STO- STO (for Street driving), Trofeo (for Max. grip, performance, and best lap times), and Pioggia (for best-wet laps). The car gets an F1-inspired CCM-R braking system which offers up to 60% higher stress resistance over a conventional CCB. LDVI, the car’s electronic brain, is now smarter and more efficient and there is rear-wheel steering as well.

The Huracan STO gets true Lamborghini racing genes in its chassis and suspension, even while not falling behind in ensuring optimum occupant comfort on street runs. The car gets adaptive dampers and an optional nose lift feature alongside the race-spec anti-roll bars and stiffer suspension, just to make the driver feel at home at all times. Guaranteed on the STO are stunning corner manners along with breathtaking acceleration and top speed. While you can drive around in one for an entire day, a racetrack would still be the perfect playground for the Huracan STO.

A Design That Aids Performance!

The Lamborghini Huracan STO has a design that actively helps to ensure unmatched performance. The design has a high focus on aerodynamic efficiency and at 1,399 kilos, is quite light for a car of this kind. Just to give you a better picture, the STO is 83 kilograms lighter than the Huracan EVO AWD and a good 43 kilos less than the Performante. The car also gets wider tracks at both ends, translating to improved corner manners.

A key element of the STO is the ‘Cofango’- a portmanteau word of two Italian words that mean ‘bonnet’ and ‘fender’. The Cofango is essentially the bonnet and the front fenders merged into one! The STO has this single-piece front section made out of Carbon Fiber alone. The way the Cofango opens would remind you of the Miura.

The Huracan STO has a highly compromised luggage bay in the nose, as this space is already occupied by massive air ducts into which air is forced via the extended front splitter, to reduce frontal lift at high speeds. There are also vents on the front fenders, new rear haunches with fins, a decent-sized dorsal fin, NACA air intakes on the rear fenders and a massive rear wing. The ALA active aero flaps from the Performante now make way for 3-stage manual wing adjustments, like the ones seen in race cars.

Cabin With More Creature Comforts!

As part of making it road-going, the Huracan STO’s cabin has been made more hospitable for the occupants. It gets a number of modern-day creature comforts like a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, and premium Alcantara upholstery.

2.4 Seconds Slower Than The Real Race Car!

You read it right! The road-going Lamborghini Huracan STO turned out to be just 2.4 seconds slower than the Huracan GT3 EVO race car at Daytona. What more testament of performance should you require to put your money on one?
